Bastille Day Hash Hares Lick It Off and her faithful lesser-half Magoo celebrate 1 year of hashing with the east bay and Lick It Off's French superiority.... Bastille Day celebrates the storming of the Bastille fortress-prison and the symbol of the uprising of the modern French nation. Well there will be no storming of any fortress on this run but there might be some storming of the hill to get to the beer. The Eagle Trail will be long and have a number of climbs but much of which is nicely shaded. The Turkey Trail will also be long (for a turkey trail) but the first half will be all shade and the second half will be flat and then downhill. So put a little work into it and then have an easy finish. If you have any complaints go find someone that cares or show me how it should be done, by setting your own trail. See how I am already hare raising. For those true hashers that are not afraid of a little hill, there might be some French inspired food and drink available after the circle. This trail is dog friendly (on a leash) but stroller un-friendly (unless, as described by FOS recently, you are a he-man). There is a playground and lots of open space for kids to run around so bring a blanket and hang out with the rug-rats. Directions: For those with GPS see coordinates above or input 7867 Redwood Road, Oakland, CA (the address of the park office) into your GPS. For those without GPS:
View Larger Map From North or West either take 1) I-580 E and exit at 35th Ave making a left onto 35th Ave and then continuing onto Redwood Road or 2 ) CA-13 South and exit at Redwood Road, making a Left onto Redwood Road. From South: take I-580 W bear right onto CA-13 and take Redwood Ave exit; turn right onto Redwood Ave. On Redwood Ave continue across Skyline Blvd approximately 2 miles and then turn left into Park. Pay the $5 parking fee and continue, until you can¡¦t go anymore, to Canyon Meadow Staging Area. Parking is limited but there are a few overflow parking lots, most notably Wayside Overflow parking lot just before Canyon Meadow Staging Area. If you want to save $5 on parking you can try to park on Redwood Road outside of the park and walk-in a half a mile. A bientôt
